Daniel was named the 2013 Sun Sentinel Excalibur Awards Palm Beach Small Business Leader of the Year, honored as a Palm Beach County Ultimate CEO by the South Florida Business Journal, and as an exceptional leader and innovator with a “40 Under 40” award.

Daniel and Modernizing Medicine co-founder, Chief Medical Officer Michael Sherling, M.D., have grown the company from inception with four rounds of financing, the most recent round occurring in November and December 2014 with a $16.5 million investment by Summit Partners, Pentland Group and previous investors. Since founding the company in 2010, Daniel has led his team to raise a total of over $45.5 million in funding and to hire over 200 employees. Additionally, in December 2014 Daniel led the company through the acquisition of Aesyntix Health, Inc., which enabled Modernizing Medicine to provide revenue cycle management, inventory management and a medical group purchasing organization to its customers. Daniel and Dr. Sherling have also developed an application within EMA, schEMA powered by IBM Watson. The app has been created as part of Modernizing Medicine’s participation in the IBM Watson Ecosystem program designed to help organizations develop a new generation of apps infused with Watson’s cognitive computing intelligence.

Frequently invited to speak at various forums around the State of Florida and across the country, Daniel had the honor in 2013 to participate in The Human Experience, the first TEDxDelrayBeach event. At the United Nations (U.N.) headquarters in New York, he was a panel member at the Economic and Social Council Civil Society Forum: “Building Partnerships in the Field of Education through Science, Technology and Innovation.” He has also spoken at IBM Watson-related events, on South Florida Technology Alliance CEO panels and at other local technology events.

An entrepreneur, Daniel has a BS in Applied Economics from Cornell University, where, as an undergraduate, he co-founded Blackboard Inc., raised over $100 million in venture capital and in 2004 helped take the company public on the NASDAQ (BBBB). In 2011, Blackboard was sold for $1.6 billion.

Active in the local community, Daniel serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Board at the South Florida Science Center and is on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Palm Beach County. Additionally, Governor Rick Scott appointed Daniel to the Florida Atlantic University Board of Trustees for a term beginning August 2013 and ending January 2016. He is an active mentor to entrepreneurs, and a member of the Business Development Board of Palm Beach County, the Boca Chamber of Commerce and several local advisory boards.
